Multisensory Literacy

We use a multisensory approach to language instruction that is designed not only for students with learning differences but all students in the classroom. Individuals are given explicit instruction following a systematic approach; utilising visual, auditory and kinaesthetic stimulus to ensure they progress with a deeper understanding of the English language.

Sessions are structured according to the needs of the child and apart from spelling and reading cover aspects of the English language such as handwriting, morphology, grammar and editing.

Multisensory Numeracy

After an initial assessment of a student’s knowledge of number facts, we work toward filling these gaps.

Many students, given the opportunity to learn to use a variety of methods, quickly begin to take control of their own learning as their self-esteem builds. If a student is unable to grasp a new concept, it is important that the information is presented differently.

Assistance With Research and Assessment Tasks

For some students, the transition to high school can be a daunting one.

We provide students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, and other learning differences an opportunity to work with a teacher one-on-one to develop the necessary skills to plan, research, write about, and edit their own work.

Online Assistance

If it is not possible to physically attend weekly sessions, your child can still access specialist sessions via Zoom. Currently, we have students in Vietnam, Vanuatu, and interstate. In our modern times of COVID, students who are positive but are well can work online.

About Us

Two Talented Teachers

Located in Auchenflower, Brisbane, we have two dedicated and experienced teachers to cater to the individual needs of students through one-on-one specialist sessions.
Both Jacqui and Harry are registered teachers with the QLD College of Teachers, and between them, they have over 60 years of teaching experience.

Jacqui has a Master of Applied Linguistics (USQ) and has completed Multisensory Language study with the Orton-Gillingham Academy, achieving both Associate and Certified level recognition. She has also completed Multisensory Language Instruction (MSL Phonology-Institute for Multisensory Language Education). Jacqui is an Associate Member of the Australian Dyslexia Association and the Orton-Gillingham Academy.

In 2019, Jacqui and Harry visited The Prentice School and The Chartwell School in California, The Kildonan School in New York State, and Berkshire Waldorf School in Massachusetts to observe best practices for students with learning differences.

Two Talented Teachers

Harry, a retired high school maths teacher, has completed workshops with Ron Yoshimoto, a co-director of Orton-Gillingham (O-G) International, and Marilyn Zecher, a Nationally Certified Academic Language Therapist specialising in the application of O-G Multisensory Strategies for teaching Maths.

Harry himself is dyslexic and is especially empathetic to the needs of students who experience learning difficulties.
Together, Jacqui and Harry believe each child should have the opportunity to reach their highest potential and pride themselves on being a positive part of that journey.

The Orton-Gillingham Approach

The OGA Principles focus attention on the social and emotional well-being, personal strengths, and educational needs of each learner. They have proven effective for groups and individuals and for typical as well as struggling readers.

Many students, given the opportunity to learn to use a variety of methods, quickly begin to take control of their own learning as their self-esteem builds.

Parent Testimonials

“Jacqui has been a fantastic tutor for the past 2 years to our son who has mild dyslexia. He is now in Year 6 and has always struggled with reading and writing but with Jacqui’s support has gained so much confidence in his academics and writing ability. I would highly recommend Jacqui as a tutor – she is patient and thorough and I am so grateful that we have found her.”

- Georgina, Brisbane, Qld

“Our son, who is dyslexic and dyscalculic, has been tutored by Harry in maths for two years.  He always finds Harry engaging and this helps to keep him interested in maths.  Above all, we have seen a great improvement in his maths ability and his ability to keep up in class.”

- Joanne, Brisbane, Qld

“Jacqui has been working with our son for over 4 years. In Prep, Liam’s confidence was deeply affected by his inability to understand letters and phonics. He was diagnosed with dyslexia and his school was unable to provide appropriate assistance. Jacqui has been a wonderful addition to Liam’s learning. He looks forward to seeing her and improving his skills. Jacqui’s expertise, kindness and patience makes learning manageable and fun.”

- Nancy, West End, QLD
